“Big Fish” is a Fantastic Movie

When people first heard the name Big Fish, very few knew what to expect. Not only is the title of the movie incredibly misleading, but also when the plot is described as “a movie about a man that tells the story of his life”, people just got the wrong idea about it. Big Fish is one of those movies that depicts a man’s life as an amazing adventure full of tales worth hearing. This movie is filled with charm, ingenuity, and creativity, the story is completely dependent of its main character’s desires and imagination. Big Fish is a brilliant movie, one of the best ever made. 

Firstly, “Big Fish” is a movie filled with great and fantastic tales. It is a film that tells the story about a man, whose dreams were bigger than anything anyone could ever imagine. He asks the audience to believe in the impossible, only to unmask everyones’ skeptical mind by proving that everything is possible. The beauty of this story relies on the fantastic elements Edward introduces to his anecdotes, assuming the fact that there is no glory waiting for us, just the one we create for ourselves. Edward’s tales allows you to observe his life in the way he perceived it. His stories portrayed his journey to self-discovery. “Big Fish” tells the story of his travels in a fantastic way. Different characters tell different passages of Ed’s adventure. It also has a lot of sidelines which are weird at first, but that are important to understand every detail of the whole picture.

In the second place, “Big Fish” teaches its audience life-lasting lessons. It talks about never giving up on your dreams, and how dreams are as far as you want them to be. All the characters that get to face Edward at some point in the story are marked by his untamed spirit and wild imagination, they get to learn from him and see life through his eyes. But as in every story there are two sides to his tales. On one side we have Edward’s universe and in the other his family’s world. Edward constantly uses his charm and imagination to keep himself away form the world, hurting his family in the process. Edward is continuously questioned by William, his son, about his fabulous stories, doubtful of his father’s true love for him. At the end we learn that letting go of the anger and reaching out for one another is the best way of understanding and loving each other. Friendship, family, and eternal love prove to be the most important thing in the world. Even the fragile father and son’s relationship comes to a happy resolution.

Lastly, Big Fish magic relies on the power of imagination and myth. Big Fish is a constant reminder that we, humans are only limited by our imagination and will to struggle for what we think is worth it. We always find ourselves chasing dreams, Big Fish is all about reaching them. Every character in the movie has something that will stay within you and change your way of seeing life. It does not matter if you are a blocked writer living in the middle of nowhere, or a hungry, misunderstood giant, you will feel identified. Throughout the movie, feelings make every moment a special one. From the beginning all the way through the very end, the entire film is a roller coaster of emotions that will keep you watching so that you do not miss any detail.

Big Fish plays with your mind and elevates your senses to a world where anything is possible. To feel is to live, and living through such an amazing work of art is a once in a lifetime opportunity. "A man tells his stories so many times that he becomes the stories. They live on after him, and in that way he becomes immortal." Is not that what every man is looking for?
